In the short story, Hills Like White Elephants (Ernest Hemingway), we meet an American man and a girl, presumably his significant other, whom are waiting for a train to arrive so they can continue on their trip. While they are waiting, they notice a small corner bar, and decide to have some drinks. They start bickering about whether or not they both should do something that would possibly make them happier in their relationship. It is unclear what it is they are considering or if they will remain together.
